ASTA (American Society of Travel Agents) Response to UK Terrorist Plot

In response to last week's announcement by UK authorities that they foiled an alleged terrorist plot to blow up 10 planes en-route from the UK to the United States, the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) issued the following statement:"We applaud the efforts of the UK and U.S. authorities to thwart any possible threat and the continued vigilance of both parties in protecting the public. By its very nature, travel is the right of free people and stands as a symbol of freedom everywhere; unfortunately, once again travel was the target of terrorist activities. If we allow terrorist threats to disrupt peaceful commerce and communities, then terrorists have won. Travelers must be firm in their resolve and not succumb to intimidation. They need to cooperate fully with authorities, be watchful of their surroundings and, most of all, be mindful of the situation and be flexible in their plans."
