The Netherlands Sample Itinerary

Topic: Europe

4 nights Amsterdam, 3 nights The Hague, 1 night Amsterdam

Day 1
Arrive Amsterdam - Wander along the canals and soak up local culture while adjusting to the change in time zones.

Day 2 to Day 4 Amsterdam
Visit Dam Square, site of the Royal Palace, and National Monument. Breeze through the colorful Red-light district if you are so inclined, head toward the Rembrandthuis. Stop at the House of Anne Frank. Nearby is Westerkerk, where Rembrandt is buried. Enjoy the scenery along the way, stopping to shop or enjoy an outdoor café. A trip to Amsterdam isn't complete without a visit to the Rijksmuseum, home of many famous Old Master paintings. Nearby you'll find two additional museums: the Van Gogh Museum and the Stedelijk Museum. You won't want to miss a canal cruise - by day or night.

Day 5 - Drive to The Hague via Leiden and Delft
In Leiden, there are a variety of museums, including a museum in a windmill. While in Delft, you'll delight in the quaint shops, restaurants, windmills, canals, and of course, the famous Delftware pottery.

Day 6 to Day 7 The Hague
The governmental seat of the Netherlands, The Hague offers the opportunity to view the outside of the royal family's home. Here you'll also find the Peace Palace (home of the International Court of Justice). Enjoy the outdoors in Westbroek Park. Museum's and Antique Shops abound; the Mauritshuis Museum is one of the leading galleries in Europe and includes Rembrandts and Vermeers. Opportunities for day trips are plenty: visit Madurodam to see the famous Netherlands in miniature, Wassenaar for seasonal horse racing, and/or the beach resort of Scheveningen complete with a lively boardwalk and a variety of water sports.

Day 8
Drive to Amsterdam with a stop in Gouda and Utrecht. While walking the narrow streets, you'll notice that Gouda is known not only for its cheese, but for its pipes and candles as well. Visit its market, the largest in Holland. While in Utrecht, you'll enjoy beautiful Holland scenery, complete with a Gothic Cathedral and railway museum.
