France Sample Itinerary
Topic: Europe4 nights Paris, 2 nights Avignon, 3 nights Nice
Day 1 - Arrive Paris.
Day 2 to Day 4
Take a "city tour" to get an overview and history of this beautiful city, returning later in the day to sights you'd like to explore on your own. The Eiffel tower, Notre Dame, the Louvre, and sidewalk cafés are all musts when experiencing Paris for the first time. Other suggestions: viewing the city from atop the Arc de Triomphe, strolling the shops of the Champs-Elysees, and a visit to Montmartre. An evening cruise on the Seine is a lovely way to view a number of these sights while they are illuminated. Visit Versailles or the Loire Valley for fascinating day trips.
Day 5
Enjoy the French countryside as you travel by train to the walled city of Avignon.
Day 6
Visit the Palais des Papes, where the Popes lived and held court during their residence in Avignon. In this smaller town, walking is the perfect mode of transportation to enjoy the quaint, narrow streets lined with cafés and exquisite shops.
Day 7
Today's train ride will whisk you from Avignon to the coastal town of Nice.
Day 8 to Day 9
The French Riviera awaits! In addition to the beach activities of the summer and the festivals in the winter, Nice has a strong cultural heritage. Visit the Opera House; the Chagall, Matisse, Fine Arts, and Naval museums; and the Flower Market. Drop by the Old City (most of which is closed off to cars) and enjoy some of the best people-watching under the sun!
Day 9
Depart Nice
