Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Europe
Topic: Europe
If I'm not traveling with a group, can I get suggestions of how to plan my trip to Europe?
Yes, our vacation agents often assist clients with personalized itineraries.
Are there any problems with translation? Do most people speak English in Europe?
Your agent will research that for you. English is widely spoken in many of the countries, but it is always wise to carry a phrase book that can be purchased at most book stores.
How do I handle foreign currency?
- Buy some currency from your local bank before leaving on your trip.
- You can also purchase currency at some of the following places:
- Airports
- Banks
- Post Offices
- Hotels
- In most cases, the best rate of exchange is realized when using a credit card.
- Oftentimes, travelers checks are not accepted.
I've heard hotels are different in Europe than in the United States. Is this true?
If you want to experience typical European hotels, then we recommend the small hotels owned and operated by local residents. Traditional European hotels are often small, have no air-conditioning, are older and do not have elevators. In addition, many have shared bathroom facilities. Many American-owned hotels have the same amenities as their U.S. properties and will usually accommodate 4 people to a room.
My spouse and I would like to travel to 3 or 4 countries. Do you suggest traveling by rail or car?
The Europe rail system is very efficient and affordable; however, traveling by car will give you the option of traveling to the smaller towns and villages. If you would like rail assistance with your vacation package, don't hesitate to call our
Rail Europe specialists.
We've been on an escorted tour; however, we're thinking of doing one on our own. What are the advantages?
- Set your own pace
- See out-of-the-way places
- Customized itinerary
- Not paying for things you may have seen
What do I need to anticipate regarding travel advisories, passport and visa requirements, insurance and vaccinations?
All European countries require a
passport. Your travel consultant will advise you of any additional needs, as they vary from country to country.
