Tour Program

Sun, November 09 ~ Honolulu, Welcome Aboard
Today you will board your ship—the Pride of Aloha. If you are attending the Sweet Adelines 2008 International Convention, transfers from any of the official Convention hotels to the Honolulu Port are provided. Cindy and Kim have an outstanding program planned for you…including a spectacular Harmony at Sea show on board the ship! Take time to unpack, relax, and explore the ship before we set sail at 8:00 p.m. this evening.

Mon, November 10 ~ Nawiliwili, Kaua’i
Kaua’i—the “Garden Isle”—is lush, tropical, and wild. With cascading waterfalls, towering green mountains, and colorful flowers, this island is what most people picture Hawai’i to be. From the spectacular views at Waimea Canyon to the verdant vistas along the Napali Coast to the great “hidden” valley of Kalalau, Kaua’i can take your breath away. Visitors are also drawn to Kaua’i for its gorgeous tropical rainforests, some of which can only be accessed by helicopter. These aerial tours take you into the heart of the island and offer spectacular scenic views that will remain with you long after your vacation ends. Golf tours, kayaking, and snorkeling are also popular “ways to play” on Kaua’i.

Tue, November 11 ~ Cruising to the Big Island of Hawai’i
This morning we depart Nawiliwili and enjoy a sun-kissed day of cruising through sparkling blue waters to the Big Island of Hawai’i. What a perfect time to settle in to the Pride of Aloha’s casual, comfortable, and carefree atmosphere and find your own rhythm of shipboard life. When you’re not involved in one of the scheduled music activities, you can choose to get involved in all kinds of shipboard activities…or simply relax and do nothing at all! This evening, if conditions permit, you will want to be on deck when we will sail by the Kilauea Volcano.

Wed, November 12 ~ Hilo, Hawai’i
Hilo is located on the flowery side of the Big Island, where lush countrysides are painted vivid with glossy red anthuriums and orchids bloom in every color of the rainbow. A busy farming and fishing population center in ancient times, the city is built around crescent-shaped Hilo Bay and today is a commercial center of sugar activity. American missionaries arrived in Hilo in 1823, and less than twenty years later, the kingdom had become a Christian nation. Consider an optional shore excursion to the acclaimed Queen Lili’uokalani Gardens. Or head for Volcanoes National Park, where you may view the molten lava flows of Kilauea, home of Pele, hotheaded goddess of fire. This evening we sail for the other side of the island.

Thu, November 13 ~ Kona, Hawai’i
Welcome to wonderful Kona—a place that loves change! It’s home to the last royal residence of Kamehameha the Great, Hawaii’s first ordained Christian Church, and one of the last homes of its modern monarchy—all within sight of each other. South of town is Kealakekua Bay where Captain James Cook first set foot on the island in 1778 and where he was killed. Nearby Pu‘uhonua o Honaunau is a well-restored Hawaiian village from pre-contact days, complete with thatch-roof hale (huts) and heiau guarded by imposing tiki. But Kona offers a lot more than history. This is the place to use some of the most interesting verbs in the present tense: swim, snorkel, scuba dive, sail, surf, and seek your place in the sun. Shop till you drop, dine, dance, and celebrate the day. Explore, adventure, energize your soul, or relax…Kona has something for everyone! This evening we depart for the island of Maui.

Fri, November 14 ~ Kahului, Maui
Ah, the magic of Maui…with its white sand beaches, crystal clear waters, and spectacular scenery, is it any wonder that the readers of Conde Nast Traveler voted Maui “Best Pacific Island”? Head to lush Iao Valley and walk the trail to view the towering Iao Needle or take an adventurous journey along the famed Hana Highway, where a twisty road with incredible scenery leads you to the waterfall-fed pools at Oheo Gulch. A journey to the summit of Haleakala Crater (the world’s largest dormant volcano) provides exhilerating views. Or perhaps you’d rather visit the historic whaling port of Lahaina to explore the restored buildings, museums, missionary homes, and a replica of a 19th-century whaling ship.

Sat, November 15 ~ Kahului, Maui, then cruising back to O’ahu
How wonderful to have some additional time in Maui! You may wish to do some additional exploring or shopping this morning before we depart mid-afternoon and cruise back to Honolulu. Enjoy your last magical evening on board the Pride of Aloha!

Sun, November 16 ~ Honolulu
After such a fabulous week of singing and island-hopping, it’s hard to believe that our time in Hawai’i has come to an end! This morning we find ourselves back in Honolulu. After disembarking, you will be provided with a transfer to Honolulu International Airport. Cindy and Kim hope you enjoyed every minute of your Harmony in Hawaii experience and wish you Mahalo!
