Good Morning! We have just arrived in Vienna. Following customs formalities, we’ll meet our driver/guide and transfer to the waiting motorcoach for the drive into Vienna. Our guided sightseeing tour will begin with a drive along Vienna’s famous “Ring” and a walking tour of the old town. A visit is planned to St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Nearby is the home where Mozart lived when he wrote
The Marriage of Figaro. Next we’ll continue to the lovely wine village of Modling for a two-night stay. After hotel check-in and time to freshen-up, we’ll enjoy dinner at a wine tavern this evening.
Day 3 ~ 30, Monday - Vienna, Modling
After breakfast, a visit is planned to Schonbrunn Palace, the former summer residence of the Hapsburgs. Following time to see the palace and the gardens, transfer into Vienna for some time at leisure for shopping and independent exploration. Later, we will return to Modling for dinner at the hotel. The remainder of the day will be at leisure.
Day 4 ~ 01, Tuesday - Danube Cruise, Budapest (Hungary)
Following breakfast, we’ll board a hydrofoil boat for the journey from Austria to Hungary by way of the Danube River. Our cruise will take us past castles, scenic villages, and the beautiful countryside. Our motorcoach driver will meet us in Budapest and then take us to the Pest side of the city to visit the Great Synagogue. Although it was desecrated during World War II, it has been reconstructed with donations from all over the world. Our next stop will be in the Buda Castle District where we’ll visit Matthias Church, used as a coronation church for Hungarian Kings. This evening we’ll have a delightful Hungarian dinner at Rezkakas Restaurant.
Day 5 ~ 02, Wednesday - Budapest
Our day begins with a visit to St. Stephen’s Basilica, the city’s largest church with a capacity of 8,500 people. Next we’ll transfer to Heroes Square to see the Millennial Monument and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Following our tour, the remainder of the day will be at leisure for shopping on the Vaci Utca, the most popular shopping area in Budapest, and for independent exploration. A favorite spot for taking photos of the city is from the terraces and balconies of the Fisherman’s Bastion.
Day 6 ~ 03, Thursday - Bratislava (Slovakia)
We’ll depart Hungary and travel into Slovakia and on to Bratislava, its capital city and a pretty town with an old castle. From 1563 to 1830, the Gothic St. Martin’s Cathedral in Bratislava was the scene of the coronation of 11 Hungarian kings. Wooden churches built in the countryside in the 18th century show the influence of Roman and Byzantine cultures. The city’s Old Town is dotted with palaces, statues, and fountains in both the baroque and classicist styles. Upon arrival, we’ll enjoy a guided sightseeing tour and then some time for independent exploration. Later we’ll check in at the hotel for the overnight accommodations.
Day 7 ~ 04, Friday - Prague (Czech Republic)
Our travels continue today as we drive into the Czech Republic and on to Prague. Upon arrival in the afternoon, we’ll have an opportunity to view the famed Hradcany Panorama, formed by Prague Castle and the St. Vitus Cathedral. We’ll stop at Wenceslas Square, site of the “Velvet Revolution” that in 1989 led to the collapse of the communist regime. Next, we’ll check in at our hotel for the final three nights of the tour. Either this evening or Saturday evening, an opportunity for optional attendance at a concert performance will be offered.
Day 8 ~ 05, Saturday - Prague
This morning we’ll focus on the Hradcany area. We’ll visit St. Vitus Cathedral and Prague Castle. Leaving the castle, we’ll walk through the picturesque Golden Lane to the Mala Strana where we’ll find the great Church of Nicholas. Our tour will end at the famed St. Charles Bridge. Following time for independent lunch, a visit is planned to the Stare Mesto—the Old Town. Here we will visit the Staromestske Namesti—the Old Town Square, the beautiful Tyn Church, and see the Old Town Hall with its 15th-century Astronomical Clock, as well as the Jan Hus Monument. Following the tour, the remainder of the day will be at leisure for shopping and independent exploration.
