Tour Program

September 2008

Monday, September 15 - Departure

Depart Detroit Metro Airport mid-morning and fly to fabulous New York City!! Upon arrival at LaGuardia Airport, we’ll transfer into the city via private motorcoach and check into the Hotel Pennsylvania for a three-night stay. Perfectly located in mid-town Manhattan, the Pennsylvania has a flair that will relax and rejuvenate you! Take time to get your bearings and enjoy an independent lunch, then we’re off to explore this exciting city! A local guide will hop aboard our motorcoach to provide an intriguing tour of Manhattan’s key sights, including Greenwich Village, artsy So Ho, Little Italy, Wall Street, and Battery Park. A visit to Ground Zero will be a powerful and moving experience. Following our tour, a stroll through the bustling streets of Chinatown will certainly be fun and is sure to offer some interesting shopping opportunities. This evening we’ll enjoy a group dinner together, followed by a visit to the legendary Empire State Building for a panoramic view of the Big Apple’s spectacular lights!

Tuesday, September 16 - New York City - Breakfast and Bloomingdale’s

This morning enjoy breakfast “your way” at a nearby deli—we’ll provide a cash allowance each day. Next, we’ll walk to America’s most famous fashion store for an exclusive and fun experience. Your Bloomingdale’s Beauty Makeover gives you the opportunity to spend time with cosmetic specialists, get tips from the experts, and have your makeup professionally applied! A $100 Bloomingdale’s Gift Card is your special parting gift. The balance of the day is on your own to experience this fabulous city as you wish…museums, sight-seeing, shopping—it’s all there for you! This evening we will rendezvous at a popular New York restau-rant for dinner. After-wards, we will attend the performance of In the Heights. In the Heights is a new musical about three days in the life of Washington Heights, a vibrant and tight-knit community at the top of the island of Manhattan. It’s a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open, and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music.

Wednesday, September 17 - Cruise around Manhattan Island and more

Armed with information about area eateries and your cash allowance, we’re sure you’ll find the perfect place for breakfast. Perhaps a special bakery will tempt you with a mouthwatering pastry and robust coffee…or maybe you’ll opt for a yummy breakfast plate at a quaint deli. This morning we’ll board our motorcoach and head to Pier 83 on 42nd Street to catch a river cruise on the Circle Line Ferry around mid and lower Manhattan. You’ll enjoy magnificent views of the world’s premier skyline and a close-up view of Lady Liberty as we sail down the Hudson River, cruise around the Battery and head up the East River (passing under the Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Williamsburg Bridges) to the United Nations and back. The balance of the afternoon is independent, so indulge yourself and do whatever suits your fancy…New York has so much to offer! For those who like to shop, we suggest you spend time in a prime shopping area like So Ho or along Fifth Avenue. Once again, we will rendezvous back at the hotel for a sumptuous dinner before attending the acclaimed Broadway musical, The Lion King. The winner of six 1998 Tony Awards, Time Magazine calls this musical “awe-inspiring.” Marvel at the breathtaking spectacle of animals miraculously brought to life by a cast of over 40 actors, thrill to the pulsating rhythms of the African Pride Lands, and be amazed by an unforgettable musical score including Elton John and Tim Rice’s Oscar-winning song “Can You Feel The Love Tonight.”

Thursday, September 18 - City Sights and Central Park

Are you ready for another fun and memorable day? This morning we’ll rendezvous with our motorcoach and head to beautiful Central Park where another local guide will take us on a great walking tour. Enjoy a special farewell lunch at the legendary Tavern on the Green, then it’s time to begin our journey back home. Our flight departs late in the day and is scheduled to arrive in Detroit early evening. The Bay Harbor Yacht Club hopes that you had a wonderful time in New York City!
