Alumni Travel really succeeds when:
It is designed to fit the goals and budgets of the participants – not off the shelf with the college logo placed on the brochure.

It is led by a college professor or qualified alum who has expertise in the places visited, is liked and well-known for the destination connection, and is able to provide insightful commentary throughout the trip.
The Group Leader really owns the tour – helps plan the daily activities, prepares supplemental materials, and helps recruit participants. They get the group prepared to travel by offering suggested readings, research links or lectures.

It incorporates experiences related to the school that are unavailable in any other way. For example: an alum speaks to the group and leads a behind-the-scenes factory tour; an evening is spent with the school’s study-abroad students discussing their experiences in the country visited; the tour includes attendance at a performance or gallery featuring an alum; part of the price tag (tax-deductible) goes toward shopping during the tour for artwork that will be displayed back at the college (with thanks to the tour).
The Alumni Office hosts promotional and pre-departure meetings for their trips, and includes a gift (logo travel bag or passport pouch) that can be built into the tour price.

Enough (but not too many) tours are offered on a regular basis, incorporating a variety of price points, tour lengths, destinations, activity levels, intensity of study.
Promotional partnership with the college “lifetime learning” organization extends the tour’s reach into the community.

Any included contribution to the school is modest and transparent.
